Self Positioning: "Katayun Kai Taraporevala" Can I position myself by that name? Katayun, the wife of Goshtasb and princess of Rum in the story of Shahnameh. It gives insight to my Persian heritage and my identity as a Zorastrian. Kai, my middle name and the first name of my father. An identifer for any unmarried Indian women and an embodiment of the modern patriarchal Indian society. Taraporevala, "vala" as in person and "tarapore" a town in Gujarat, India where my Grandfather's family is from, a geolocator. Though my full name is a big part of how I identify myself I should also pay attention to the name I have walked through most my life with, "Katy". As Katy I have been an explorer, who can easily discover communities and people around the world. I have become someone who cannot stay quiet when I see injustices against others. I have been a wide eyed child always excited to learn.
